Cause Still Under Investigation
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue received reports of a fire at 6501 W. Charleston (The Tides apartment complex) at 5:04 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2023. The initial responders arrived on the scene within minutes, and due to the extent of the fire, a second alarm (an additional level of resources) was dispatched. The fire was contained and extinguished at approximately 6:42 a.m.
Portions of the building were already untenable for firefighters to search upon arrival, due to a lack of structural integrity. Crews have remained on the scene all day to complete the overhaul and investigate the cause. Heavy equipment has been requested to assist.
During this process, unfortunately, one person has been found deceased. One additional person has yet to be accounted for, and we will continue our search efforts. In the city of Las Vegas, anytime a deceased person is found during a fire, the investigation is conducted by three agencies: Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Arson Investigators, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigations, and the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
Six patients have been transported for injuries, all in stable condition. One firefighter was injured but was cleared and returned to duty.
With 18 people displaced, the American Red Cross is providing emotional support and access to a safe place to stay, food, clothing and medication. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
